Overview

The IKE (Idiotiki Kefalaiouchiki Etaireia) is Greece's standard private company and the usual choice for founders, consultants and small operating businesses. Its capital requirement is symbolic rather than a real barrier, 100% foreign ownership is permitted, and no Greek partner or resident director is required. Incorporation runs through the GEMI commercial registry and can be done remotely — in practice the one document that must be signed by hand is a notarised, apostilled power of attorney.

Who it's for

Founders, consultants and remote professionals who need a Greek legal entity to invoice through or to support a residence route.

What's included

  • Name check and reservation with GEMI
  • Articles of association and the incorporation filing
  • Company AFM and VAT registration
  • EFKA registration and guidance on ongoing obligations

How it works

  1. 1

    Scope and name

We agree the activity, shareholding and company name, then reserve it with GEMI.

  2. 2

    Sign the power of attorney

You sign a notarised, apostilled POA where you are; everything else is handled in Athens.

  3. 3

    Registration and tax setup

GEMI registration, company AFM, VAT and EFKA are completed and handed to you.

Common questions

For an IKE the statutory minimum is symbolic rather than a funding hurdle — the real costs are professional fees, registration and ongoing accounting, not locked-up capital.

Generally yes. Incorporation is handled electronically through GEMI on the strength of your power of attorney. Opening the company bank account is the step most likely to add time and, depending on the bank, to want you present.

Not by itself. A company can support certain routes, but residence is decided on the rules of the route you apply under. Set the company up for real business reasons and treat any residence benefit as a separate application.
